Wow I haven't posted for a long time. Funny thing is I always want everyone else to post stuff and then I don't post ever. Anyway I am such a slacker!
Just made these delicious little garden lurkers the other day for a friends party.

She hates gnomes.....well hated gnomes. With all the teasing she now loves them! The great thing about these gnomes is each one can be killed individually. Tee hee. (sorry about the crappy over-exposed photo)

Its been awhile gees. So I haven't done tons this summer. Just wanted to post a couple projects I finished.

Notice what the squirrel has in its hands....love it!

I loved how these backpacks turned out. I think it was mostly due to the fabric I used. I kind of want to make one for myself.

Its always fun when you go out to eat and spill a whole glass of water on your lap. From the front it looks like you wet your pants AND from the back it looks like you peed your pants. There is no way to hide it. Yep I just did that. Oh how embarrassing.........

When failing is a good thing

I haven't been up to much lately. I did finally finish two creatures for my sister's new baby. They have been laying around my house in pieces for months.

I was also hungry enough to try to saw my finger off to eat. Luckily I failed.

Ok for reals if you are wondering I was super hungry and was hastily trying to cut a piece of bread with a sharp bread knife. Unfortunately the knife bounced off the bread and cut my finger. This picture is taken the following day.

Last weekend we went to the Festival of Color. It is a religious holiday celebrated by Hindus. Well over in good ol' Spanish Fork the Krishna Temple puts on a huge celebration. It was awwesssome!!! Whats not to like when it involves color.....and getting messy?

Do you know the way to San Jose?

Yes, yes I do know the way to San Jose. Glad you asked.

First you detour down to Lake Tahoe.

Then when you get to San Jose, walk around downtown and maybe you will see a super, enormous, awesome mouse trap contraption. And you will be stuck watching it for 30 minutes just so you can see the ball take every route possible.

Then you might have the privilege of seeing silly mushroom trees.

Since you have walked all around you might have to stop and sit at a park bench and enjoy watching squirrels mate. Sorry no photos.

Next you might venture out of downtown into the outskirts and run across this gorgeous building. Too bad the bike shop was closed and the building was for sale. But the bikes were all still in the yard!

The bike shop may possibly be one of the coolest things to see. (I decided this was my favorite site after the trip was over. Stupid me didn't take any pictures of it. Luckily I found some photos of the place on the good old internet. I am still a little disapointed in myself though.)

Why do I know the way to San Jose? Well Jason helped with a documentary that got into the film festival there so we went down to support his friends and to get away. Little did we know there really isn't much to do in San Jose except to eat. I wished we had more time though so we could have ventured over to San Fransisco.
The documentary is called The Sonosopher in case you were wondering.

Old Lady Plastic

Jason and I always make fun of Old Lady Plastic in our ward. She takes drawings and paintings to church and somehow gets them displayed during the lesson or gets them copied onto the front of the program sheet. The part we make fun of is the fact that she does not have an ounce of humility in her. Oh and the fact that she looks like plastic. Whenever we see something displayed we know she won't miss the chance to talk about herself and her artwork.
Anyways with that said here are a couple of projects I finished recently. Haa haa. Ok I don't want to be Old Lady Plastic, but that is what I feel like sometimes when I post my projects. So feel free to critique I am not afraid.A seriously flawed bird. It has some kinks to be worked out.
So this quilt pattern is from Denyse Schmidt Quilts. I really like the quilt patterns in her book. Anyways it is the first pieced quilt I have made and I really had trouble with it. First somehow I sewed with a 3/8" seam allowance (I blame my crappy sewing machine). Second because of the extra seam allowance I had to add more blue around the rectangles. I think it turned out fine though. I also didn't bind my quilt correctly. So much to learn. Ughhh. Enjoy the photos. They aren't good. Maybe if my sister lived closer she could have taken them for me. This is the back of the quilt. Part of it. And Jason. Isn't he cute?! I know I am biased......or does the quilt just bring out his good looks? hee hee.

Kankles

I never thought I would see the day Jason would have a kankle. You would think it would make me feel a little better about mine, but it didn't.

Jason tore his ACL about 4 years ago and barely got it repaired this month. Below is a picture of his swollen knee ten days after surgery. The above picture is five days after surgery.

He is recovering rather quickly though. Unfortunately there is no pivoting, twisting or sports for 6 months.

Double Dutch

For our annual family camping trip this summer we attempted to try double dutch. My mom schooled us all!!! Who would have thunk it?! Little did we know jump roping was a frequent activity when she was young and it must have stuck. Her sisters were just as good too.

I am 99.9% sure that a bird hit me in the forehead while I was bicycling home from work.

Just to fill you in I was riding my bike home and was thinking about how a road bike would be so much faster while staring at how far away the road bicyclist was that had just past me. Then out of the corner of my eye I see some big blur - felt a soft thud and heard feathery wings rustle and flap, then we parted ways.

Needless to say we probably both left feeling a little embarassed. The bird more so because come on they dodge cars all the time.

The Big Island

Ok Leslie Petunia Annette Daffodil Stireman Penelope Wheeler the Fifth this is the post you requested.

Hawaii is definitely an awesome place to vacation.

My sister and her husband invited us to go with them to Hawaii. It wasn't hard for them to talk us into it. We camped a couple of nights on the Kona side of the Big Island. One night at some podunk camp place that had probably 30 cats following a cat lady. Then another night at a beach. That place was nice. We played in the ocean at multiple different beaches. Snorkeled a bit. I had never been snorkeling before. We saw 4 sea turtles, a nemo fish and lots of other awesome fish.

We also saw some lava at night. It was so far away though that it only looked like somebody's fire.

On the Hilo side we rented a house. It was in the jungle and was totally worth it. We went to a couple of black sand beaches. One had some nudists on it so we high tailed it out of there and left the nudists for the locals to enjoy. We also went to two waterfalls. Got lost in the jungle, trespassed, and ate lots of yummy fruits.

Anyway since I am kind of being non descriptive and boring here are some pictures to enjoy.

This is the jungle house we stayed in. It was pretty much awesome!!.

The video is of the sound we fell asleep to. I kind of liked it.

We hiked to the bottom of Hi'ilawe Falls and played in the water at the bottom. It is 1,450 feet tall. The picture doesn't even do justice.This guy was carving tikis on Oahu. We bought one from him.

Did you say Pterodactyl?! Yep they are pretty much awesome (it was my favorite when I was little).

I just made this little stuffed toy for a cousins new baby. It was a big hit. I might have to make one for myself, but I am thinking it will be different colors with a few modifications.

Birthdays are always a good excuse for me to construct something...anything. I gave my sister a coin purse. Here are a few pictures.
I love the fabric! So vibrant!! I am am curious to see how long the glue will last because I didn't crimp the sides. I have actually never crimped the sides of my coin purses. The frames are just so small and strong it is too hard for my toothpick muscles to bend.
Moving right along.....
I also made some tutu skirts for my two neices. Mostly because I saw one on this blog. I sewed the yellow and blue one first and definetaly learned from my mistakes. Then I sewed the green one. I really like the non girlie colors I picked.
Despite my flaws the girls loved them and insisted on wearing them for a bit while we were camping. They also decided they wanted the tag in the front.

Wishing I was still on Vacation

Just went to Discovery Bay, the Olympic National Park, and Seattle a couple weeks ago. It is a beautiful place with lots of lush forest. And as always Seattle is quite the city. We had good times with friends and family. I wish I could vacation forever.

This photo is of some sea life. The pinkish-salmon heart shaped things are called sea squirts which I thought were so intriguing.

Zig-Zaging through the Night

My sister and I decided to make a quilt for our brother's wedding present. Since we don't live close enough we split it up and did half each. Well we finished the night before the wedding at 2 in the morning. The back isn't all that cool, but whatever I am just glad it got done and I know my sister is too. And let me tell you......to finish a project with my sister is like winning a marathon. We are both indecive and when you put us together it is torture trying to decide on something. Plus we are procastinators. We are doomed!!!! Sorry sis. Haa haa. You know its true.

The cool thing about making this type of zig zag quilt is that you only have to cut squares and not cut triangles. There are lots of tutorials online, one can be found here at this totally amazing quilt blog. Be sure to check out all her other quilts.

Some might say our color scheme doesn't go, but I quite like the results. Here is a picture (it is a little over-exposed ..... yep those are my photography skills).

As you can see making my blog spectacular looking has been added to my unfinished project list. Hopefully I accomplish that soon because it looks totally blah.

I can't stop thinking about my next projects long enough to finish my current one -ahem -ones which end up cluttering my oh so big podunk apartment. And now I am thinking of documenting the colorful mess I have created. What have I gotten into?!
